The Performa 580CD comes with everything you need built into a single unit. In addition to the standard 1.4-megabyte Apple SuperDrive floppy disk drive, the Performa 580CD is equipped with a double-speed, tray-loading internal CD-ROM drive. High-quality stereo sound is provided by front-mounted speakers, and a microphone is integrated into the unit so you can add sound to many Macintosh applications. And the built-in, high-resolution color display delivers image resolution and clarity in thousands of colors.
With its 66/33-megahertz 68040 microprocessor, the Performa 580CD boasts extremely high performance. It can support up to 52 megabytes of RAM, so you can work with multiple applications simultaneously.
The Performa 580 includes a 250- or 500-megabyte hard disk drive, so you’ll have plenty of storage capacity. And AppleTalk networking is built in, so there’s no need to buy additional hardware if you want to access printers, send electronic mail, or share files with others.
Multiple ports allow you to expand the Performa 580CD with peripheral devices such as scanners and printers. An LC processor-direct slot assures fast access to high-speed expansion cards if you need additional capabilities such as graphics accelerators. And a flexible communications slot allows high-speed Ethernet networking.
